Temptation enters, anger takes hold of the heart, and the tongue begins to hurl accusations. When you see where it has carried you, turn back and say simply: \u201cI was wrong; I have sinned.\u201d Admitting it will not destroy you; it opens a door to life.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin:0;\">If someone will not listen even to the community, Jesus asks us to acknowledge the depth of that rupture. Yet this comes only after a private approach and every patient effort of truth and mercy. Correction is not meant to shame or expose another person; its purpose is to win back a brother or sister.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"inq-voice\" style=\"margin:56px 0;padding:32px;background:#fff;border-radius:8px;border:1px solid #d9e4ec;\">\n<p style=\"text-align:center;font-style:italic;color:#6b8599;margin:0 0 20px;letter-spacing:1px;\">Saint Thomas of Villanova<\/p>\n<div style=\"font-size:18px;line-height:1.8;font-style:italic;color:#1a1a2e;text-align:center;\"><p style=\"margin:0;\">How gentle and discerning the Lord\u2019s command is. To protect our neighbour\u2019s good name, he does not allow an immediate public accusation. First comes a private word, then the presence of two witnesses, and only after that the community. A good physician also begins gently and turns to harsher remedies only when the wound threatens the whole body.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"inq-section inq-commentary\" style=\"margin:56px 0;\">\n<p style=\"font-family:Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;font-size:11px;letter-spacing:3px;text-transform:uppercase;color:#0b7d8c;margin:0 0 4px;text-align:center;\">Reflection<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-family:Georgia,serif;font-size:28px;color:#1a1a2e;text-align:center;margin:0 0 28px;font-weight:bold;\">Fraternal correction: mercy lived in community<\/h2>\n<div style=\"font-size:18px;line-height:1.8;\"><p style=\"margin:0 0 16px;\">Jesus addresses something every community eventually faces: sin wounds relationships and can injure the whole body. His response is concrete, gradual and accountable. The first move is not exclusion but approach; not exposure but a private conversation; not defeating the other person but <strong style=\"color:#0b7d8c;\">winning them back<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin:0 0 16px;\">These words come immediately after the parable of the lost sheep. Christian community therefore lives in tune with God\u2019s desire to recover the one who has wandered. It is a hospital for everyone: it tends wounds, offers the medicine that is needed and never stops hoping for conversion.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin:0 0 16px;\">Fraternal correction is not reserved for those who imagine themselves morally superior. We all need to learn how to speak truth humbly and how to receive correction without becoming defensive. Truth without charity destroys; charity without truth leaves another person alone inside the wound.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin:0 0 16px;\">Boundaries may become necessary when someone refuses every attempt at help and places others at risk. Even then, a boundary should arise from responsibility rather than contempt, and hope should remain open.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin:0 0 16px;\">The authority to bind and loose serves the communion offered by mercy. Shared prayer sustains that calling: when two or three gather in Jesus\u2019 name, he is not a distant guest but <strong style=\"color:#0b7d8c;\">the living centre of the community<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin:0;\">Together we pray for the world\u2019s conversion, for wounded relationships and for those who have drifted away. Its centre is Jesus of Nazareth. As we learn to look towards the Father as he does, we learn to ask according to the Father\u2019s will.
